5 Tricks to Increase Firefox Browsing Speed

Firefox has tons of add-ons that can help its users to improve productivity to a great extend. However, sometimes, Firefox add-ons are memory hogs, even have a side effect on increasing the speed of your Firefox browser.

By default, those new Firefox browsers, such as Firefox 8, Firefox 9 even 10 have setup for speed but it is also possible to do some more tweaks on them to make it even quicker.

Although many Firefox extensions may slow down Firefox startup time and webpage loading speed, here are several add-ons can be used to make Firefox even faster.

Tweak Network

With Tweak Network, you can tweak some network settings that have been hidden by Firefox, speed up the loading of web pages and increase the maximum number of simultaneous downloads from a website.

Speed DNS

By avoiding wait time on DNS lookups, Speed DNS can make your browsing experience faster.

Once Speed DNS has been installed successfully, it will do DNS pre-resolution of all the links on a web page, which saves the extra second that it takes to lookup this information when you click on a link.

Here, I will cover some other tweaks to get Firefox web pages loading faster. By changing some settings in the Firefox configuration page known as about:config, you can also speed up your Firefox web browser.

Disable Tab Animations

Look for ‘browser.tabs.animate’ in filter and double-click on the value to disable tab animations. When the value has been False, all tab animations will be disabled to improve page load speeds.

Speed Up Your Firefox by Adjusting Your HTTP Pipelining

Search for “network.http.pipelining”. By default the value is False. Double-click that line and change it to “true” value.

Increase Pipelining Value to 8 from 4

Set the new value of network.http.pipelining.maxrequests to 8 by double clicking on it.

The default value for this setting is 4, meaning Firefox will send 4 requests to server request and 8 means it will send more requests.
